REP COACHES WANTED

We are working on finalising our rep coaches for the 2024 season.  We have a little time left, so if there is any more interest out there for rep coaching this year, please email manager@netballwhanganui.co.nz  This is an exciting opportunity for those who have a passion for coaching, and enjoy working with our Secondary School aged players.  You will have plenty of​​​​​​​ support in your role as coach, and a great season is planned, so please, get in touch for more information if you think this might be you!

Grow Coach

A reminder to register your coaches for our upcoming ’Grow Coach’ programme, beginning Monday 4th March, 5.30pm at Whanganui High School Gym.  This is FREE and will be hugely beneficial for coaches of all levels.  This is run BY local coaches, FOR local coaches – our own, homegrown support system!  (see the flyer at the top of the page)


Netball Whanganui would like to offer this FREE course to coaches at all levels. Ideal for beginners right through to Premier and Rep coaches – something for everyone!


  • 4th March – introduction/planning/warm-ups/resources (Lisa Murphy/Robyn Walford)
  • 11th March – attacking/shooting (Lisa Murphy)
  • 18th March – defence (Parekura Cribb)
  • 25th March – through court (Hannah Middleton)
  • 8th April – put it all together/conclusion (Jolene Henry)


The aim is to form a ‘Coach Club’ where coaches can share resources and experiences, meet other coaches and support one another, and plan further coach support programmes specific to your needs.

Growing Skilled Players who Love the Game

Following on from our programme, Central Netball are coming to Whanganui to host the Growing Skilled Players who Love the Game  (Player Centred Coaching) module on 7th May.  This will follow along nicely from our ‘Grow Coach’ programme.

FREE ONLINE Coach Learning and Development Sessions

The following dates have been scheduled for the upcoming online coach learning and development sessions, delivered by Netball Central Zone.  NB Netball South is also running a series with similar workshops and coaches are welcome to attend those if these dates don’t work (NB there is a cost to attend the South sessions, of $10.)


  • Wednesday 6th March, 6:30pm: Growing Skilled Players who Love the Game  (Player Centred Coaching)
  • Wednesday 13th March, 6:30pm: Season and Session Planning
  • Wednesday 27th March, 6:30pm: Team Culture
  • Tuesday 2nd April, 6:30pm: Tournament Planning for Coaches (target is Rep coaches)
  • Tuesday 9th April, 6:30pm: Prepare your athletes for the season (Developing Physical Capacity)
  • Monday 29th April, 6:30pm: Building Quality Relationships
  • Monday 6th May, 6:30pm: Introduction to Mental Skills

These are all Community Coach Award sessions and coaches will be credited with these modules when they’ve completed the online Sport Tutor component and attended the session.  There is no cost to attend these sessions.
